Pacific Internet launches VoIP services in India
A Singapore-based leading Internet service provider, Pacific Internet, has launched Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service in India. The VoIP service would work as a new IP telephony solution for companies, small and medium businesses (SMBs) and retail sections in the country.

Christened PacNet Vocal is the enterprise-grade IP-based service that is coming with a suite of value-added services customized with the voice carrier market in India.
Pacific Internet Vice-President, Lee Tian, said that
we are operating in the seven countries in Asia-Pacific region. India is the first country where we decided to launch VoIP to capitalise on the rapid communications growth.India is a booming economy and we just want to tap the huge potential in the SMB segment in Indian market.

The company has been granted the Internet Telephony Service Provider (ITSP) licence to offer VoIP in India. Now it is planning to launch new service through direct marketing and looking for the channel partners in metro cities across the country.
Lee said further that
with our new vocal world number functionality, Indian businesses could establish a local presence in about 400 destinations across the world with a virtual phone number.
With using this IP telephony networks, some unique numbers could be assigned for each extension without any dedicated line for each to reduce cost overheads.
With this new technology, PacNet Vocal would allow customers to forward calls made to their virtual numbers over the IP network to a designated Session-Initiated Protocol (SIP) number.
It would cost local call charges at Re.1 per minute only. Lee said further that they would offer free international calls within the Vocal SIP network without international direct dialling or local call charges.
