Organizers have called off a boycott of Chicago Public Schools staged to protest Illinois’ education funding system.
State Sen. James Meeks said Wednesday evening that the two-day boycott was a success and brought attention to the issue of school funding.
Earlier Wednesday, hundreds of students skipped classes to attend impromptu lessons in the lobbies of 18 downtown Chicago government and business buildings.
Meeks organized the boycott to urge state leaders take some action, such as supporting a $120 million program to pump funding into key ailing schools.
