Netanyahu: “America is a thing you can move very easily"

POLITICS. .

Israeli premier Benyamin ‘Bibi’ Netanyahu may be the most vulgarly arrogant politician on the planet. Here is a man who heads a nation that is dependent on the aid and diplomatic support of the U.S. government. Israel is the largest recipient of American aid at $3billion annually (more than all of sub-Saharan Africa despite having a per capita GDP comparable to Great Britain) and the United States protects Israel from condemnation and sanctions through use of its veto in the United Nations Security Council. You’d think that would engender gratitude and humbleness amongst Israeli leaders. Certainly some Israelis pander to America in order to maintain and strengthen this support, but the Israeli Likud right has always behaved as if the Jewish state has an entitlement to such support. A conform that is indulged in the knowledge that Israel has an incredibly powerful lobby in America that can always raise hell if any American government threatens loss of aid or unconditional diplomatic backing.

Netanyahu is one of these latter Israelis. His arrogance is such that after his first meeting with President Clinton in 1996, the U.S. president stated to his aides afterwords in regards to ‘Bibi’: “Who the f*** does he think he is? Who’s the f***ing superpower here?”

Clinton also attacked ‘Bibi’ as a ’son of a bitch’ who does not want peace. For ‘Bibi’ it is part arrogance and immaturity.

And his trademark behavior is evident in his treatment of Obama, dismissing his request for a settlement freeze and honest commitment to peace negotiations.

In fact, Netanyahu and his American buddies sense that Obama has been politically weakened (and you don’t have to be a political genius to figure that out) and have concluded that this could be the ideal time, coming only a few months before the midterm election to pick-up a fight with the Democratic White House occupant and press him to fall behind the current Israeli policies. Or else, he could find himself confronting the opposition of a powerful bloc of pro-Israeli Republican and Democratic lawmakers. At stake could be the open Congressional races in November, including the Senate races in New York, California and Florida, where the so-called “Jewish vote” could play a critical role.

Bibi is a dogmatic man and he is not afraid of a fight with the White House as he demonstrated in the 1990s with Clinton.

And Bibi may very well win his fight in Congress to undermine any Obama peace initiatives. A recently disclosed video revels the psychology of this arrogant, lying and militant man:

The United States and Israel have made a huge effort this month to patch up the sometimes difficult relationship between President Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu. But a newly released video of Netanyahu, speaking in an unvarnished manner in 2001 about relations with the United States and the peace process, may cause some heartburn at the White House.

"I know what America is," Netanyahu told a group of terror victims, apparently not knowing his words were being recorded. "America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction. They won't get in their way."

Netanyahu also bragged how he undercut the peace process when he was prime minister during the Clinton administration. "They asked me before the election if I'd honor [the Oslo accords]," he said. "I said I would, but ... I'm going to interpret the accords in such a way that would allow me to put an end to this galloping forward to the '67 borders. How did we do it? Nobody said what defined military zones were. Defined military zones are security zones; as far as I'm concerned, the entire Jordan Valley is a defined military zone. Go argue."

Gideon Levy, a left-leaning columnist for Haaretz newspaper, declared: "This video should have been banned for broadcast to minors. This video should have been shown in every home in Israel, then sent to Washington and Ramallah. Banned for viewing by children so as not to corrupt them, and distributed around the country and the world so that everyone will know who leads the government of Israel."

And this is a man, Bibi, who is the son of a Revisionist Zionist father who believes that the world is hopelessly anti-Semitic and thus Israel should do what it wants and that entails consistently opposing a Palestinian state and expanding its borders. And his brother recently called Obama an anti-Semite:

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s brother-in-law Dr. Hagai Ben-Artzi on Wednesday called U.S. President Barack Obama an anti-Semite in an interview with Army Radio.

“It’s not that Obama doesn’t like Bibi,” he referring to Netanyahu using his nickname. “He doesn’t like the nation of Israel.”

He went on to say that Obama’s anti-Semitism stems from years of indoctrination by controversial preacher Rev. Jeremiah Wright, whom Obama distanced himself from during the election campaign.

“When there is an anti-Semitic president in the United States, it is a test for us and we have to say: We will not concede. We are a nation dating back 4,000 years, and you in a year or two will be long forgotten. Who will remember you? But Jerusalem will dwell on forever.”

If Obama is going to cave in then he deserves the spit on his face and the contempt rendered to him by a fanatic Bibi who thinks he can dictate to the United States and exploit the Israel lobby.

And Obama should not let himself, the most powerful man in the world, to be pushed around by a aid-dependent thug and his American cohorts.
