NAB Chairman Ordered to Immediately Open Zardari’s Swiss Accounts Cases
The battle between the judiciary and the executive has shifted to the accountability department as chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has been ordered by the Supreme Court to immediately reopen President Zardari’s cases of Swiss bank accounts. Failing to comply by the orders, NAB chairman may be displaced from his office.

The orders have rendered NAB chairman Naveed Ahsan stretched between the judiciary and the executive, the latter also including the Law Ministry, which is delaying the apex court’s orders regarding the cases against the President. The situation is increasingly leading the political battle between the government, or, to be more precise, the President, and the Chief Justice of Pakistan to a blind alley. The President enjoys constitutional immunity against any criminal case as long as he holds the presidency.
For their side, the government is said to have replaced more than 40 legal and investigation officials of NAB with those who are loyal to the existing government. It is important to mention that the government recently stepped back from its orders to appoint senior judges at the Supreme Court after the Chief Justice suspended the government’s orders and a countrywide chaos started to fills the media with news of violence and disintegration in the country.
