Muslim women, stand up and be counted
Are they, the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband, Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh, living in Stone Age or in the 21st century?

It is extremely sad to hear that the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband has issued a 'Fatwa' (edict) saying that Muslim women should not become judges as it is forbidden in the religion. The seminary posted the fatwa on its website after a question was posed to it on the issue.
It is ridiculous for the Islamic seminary Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh to issue such a Fatwa. All the religions, without any exception, should in fact try to provide equal status to women in the society. In fact, it is the duty of the religion to encourage women to become self-sufficient. Instead, the Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur has isssued the Fatwa that women should not become judges as it is forbidden in the religion. It is not practicable in the 21st century when more and more women are coming out to become anything that was once considered a males' bastion.
The religious heads should have thought of the welfare of the community before issuing such decrees as it will have a negative impact on the women in the Muslim community. Already, the Muslim women are far behind in every field, only due to such medieval age attitude of the religion about the women.
In Islam, the only duty of women seems to be to produce as many children as possible with the wider objective of increasing the Muslime population in the world.
It is already 21st century. And it is time, such attitude should be changed for the welfare of the women in society. At a time more and more women are excelling in all spheres of life, such Fatwas are a blot on society.
It is none other than the muslim women who have to stand up and protest against such Fatwas. The muslim women should stand up and protest and should ignore such fatwas squarely. The sooner it is done, the better for them.
