The IRL’s IndyCar Series hopes to add two Champ Car races to its 2008 schedule as part of the unification of America’s two open-wheel series.

IRL founder Tony George and Champ Car co-owner Kevin Kalkhoven also said Wednesday that the traditional Long Beach race, run on the same weekend as the IRL’s event in Japan, will be the final Champ Car event.

“There’s still a lot of challenges ahead of us, but this day is all for the fans,” George said.
