The Madhya Pradesh government has decided to ban the sex education provided under the adolescent education program in its present form in the schools. According to the reports, CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was upset on the way it is being taught in the schools.
Different organizations started raising voice against the graphics and pictorial descriptions that were being used in the course material under the adolescent education program (AEP). The National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO) funds the AEP program.
According to a government official, the CM has ordered the education department across the state to stop teaching sex education. He has reportedly informed the Human Resource Development Ministry about the state government's decision.
CM Chouhan has written a letter on this decision to HRD minister Arjun Singh. He wrote in the letter;
...the union government has devaluated Indian culture and its values. I believe that the text material on the subject was not submitted before you in a proper manner or else you would have not approved it. Instead, the younger generation should be taught about yoga, Indian culture and its values.
Several groups, including some political parties such as Congress too, had demanded to stop supplying the alleged overt material in the teaching kit. They said that teaching about sex is too early for Class 9 and 11 students.
Chouhan reportedly had ordered to stop the AEP in the state. However, officials who were in charge of the program said that because of the untrained teachers and the uneducated politicians, the AEP program went for premature death.
