Morocco’s 54th anniversary of Independence

Morocco celebrated yesterday, the 54th anniversary of its Independence. This anniversary is a an occasion to recall all the Moroccans’ sacrifices, mainly king Mohammed V and the martyrs who scarified themselves to chase the French colonizer out of the north African kingdom.

The French protectorate, which was imposed on Morocco in 1912, was chased out after the return of King Mohammed V in 1956 from his exile in Madagascar and Corsica. On November 18th, 1956, King Mohammed V proclaimed Morocco’s independence and from then on this day is celebrated in Morocco with much pomp and fervor.
