Mexican Twitterers Expose the Truth: The War has Begun
Mexican 'twitterers' have united and are reporting not only what local medias refuse to report, but also what both the Governor and Mayors of Tamaulipas continue to deny: The 'war' has begun.

There was talk back in September, mass emails were being passed, that relationships were being broken and new, previously unimaginable alliances, were being formed. 'The War', as it was being called, was said to begin mid-month. I remember thinking: Just in time for Independence Day. Of course, September turned into October, October to November, and by the time New Years came and went, it was pretty much just another rumor.
In recent days an outbreak of violence has taken over northern Tamaulipas. Shootings and grenade attacks in Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Cd. Mier, Matamoros, Valle Hermoso, and Rio Bravo have forced schools and businesses to close. The U.S. consulates and American Citizen Services have closed in at least two of the border towns, with no specific date for resuming services.
In Reynosa, caravans of trucks marked with CDG (Gulf Cartel), X,(another faction of the Gulf Cartel) and CDS (Sinaloa Cartel)are reported to be patrolling the areas and at times closing off access to national highways.

The violence is said to have derived from the breaking of the an agreement which was made between the Gulf Cartel and the Zetas.
After the arrest and extradition of Gulf Cartel leader Osiel Cardenas Guillen in 2007, Eduardo Costilla Sanchez, El Coss, took charge of the Gulf cartel along with Ezequiel Cardenas Guillen, as Los Zetas are led by Heriberto Lazcano and Miguel Treviño Morales.
According to sources, until December 2009 the two groups had agreed to work on the same routes and defend their territory as if it were a single organization, but each with their leaders.
Officials stated that based on information from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the relationship between Zetas and the Gulf cartel was formally broken on the 18 of January of this year.
The break in the relationship resulted whenEl Coss sent assassins to Reynosa to kill Victor Peña Mendoza, Concord 3, the chief of finance for the Zetas, and close friend of Miguel Treviño Morales.
In less than a month to defend their positions on trafficking routes into the United States and sales areas in states such as Oaxaca, Guerrero, Tamaulipas, Nuevo Leon, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tabasco, the Gulf Cartel associated with the Sinaloa and Michoacan Family cartels while the Zetas formed alliances with The Beltran Leyva Organization and the Juarez cartel.
