The Mumbai terror strikes were shown day in day out without break. Every small detail was being covered when the operation Cyclone was going on. In their race for the maximum TRP they very conveniently forgot one very important point. Their continos coverage was giving the terrorists also every detail of any action being carried on. If they had been more prudent may be more lives could have been saved.
Admiral Suresh Mehta is justifiably angry with the media As per him, "When channels were reporting that commandos were being air dropped, the terrorists were in live contact with their masters who were keeping them informed. Such minute to minute coverage can be detrimental to conduct of operations, we are disturbed by such reporting".
He is absolutely right. If there had been selective coverage perhaps the over all picture would have been different. Naturally Admiral's comments had not gone down well with the media czars.
Dr. Prannoy Roy President NDTV has reacted strongly to these allegations. As per him Admiral statement is completely untrue and malicious. They have asked for a retraction and a public apology as these amounts to defamation.
Vir Sanghvi also lashed out against the Admiral. He was scathing in his reaction saying that if this was the level of Navy's leadership are we surprised that terrorists came in so easily. The Naval Chief should ponder over the damage his foolish press conference has done to his service. The Navy deserves better.
But the fact remains the same,Should any action be taken against the media for the role it played when the operation Cylone was still going on.
