Man With Saudi Religious Police Gets 120 Lashes For Marrying 6 Wives Instead of 4

You have to love the religious hypocrisy of some individuals who either think they are above it all or too stupid to think they will get caught for religious infractions. Even I, a non-Muslim, know that those who choose to practice polygamy in Islam are only allowed 4 wives, but one 56-year-old Saudi man married 6 and now is in major trouble for it. Not only has this man married 2 too many wives, 3 of them were illegal marriages to Yemeni women. What's even more interesting is that he also happens to be an administrative member of the Saudi religious police, or the Commission for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice as it is known in Saudi Arabia. He, of course, is claiming ignorance, stating that since he did not finish elementary school he wasn't educated enough to know that 4 is the limit. Problem for him is, no-one is buying his story. “I find it hard to believe that he was unaware of such a major religious rule that even new-comers to the religion are aware of,” Judge Shaikh Salman Al Wida’ani said.

It was also noted that none of his relatives attended ceremonies of his marriages to foreign women.

If I am aware of the ruling, there's no way a man who lives in the Kingdom, who happens to be Muslim and works for the religious police wouldn't know. It seems he just wanted to get a little extra on the side and now he's paying the consequences.

For punishment he's getting 120 lashes, along with a few other goodies.

In addition, he was slapped with a five-year travel ban and was ordered to memorise the last two sections of the Holy Quran.

Maybe he needs to memorize the whole dang Quran, considering who he works for. It's rather ironic to see someone affiliated with the religious police being subjected to the same form of punishment that others are subjected to, oftentimes for no good reason.
