A British man who fled the United States after his wife and baby daughter were found dead has been sentenced to two life terms in prison without the chance for parole.

Neil Entwistle was convicted Wednesday of two counts of first-degree murder in the 2006 deaths of his wife, Rachel and their 9-month-old baby, Lillian Rose.

He claimed his wife killed their daughter, then committed suicide. But prosecutors said he killed them because he was deep in debt and dissatisfied with his sex life.

The judge heard from Rachel’s parents and brother, then called the slayings “incomprehensible” before imposing concurrent sentences.

In Massachusetts, the only punishment for a first-degree murder conviction is life in prison without parole.
