Man Denied French Citizenship For Forcing Wife To Wear Niqab
It looks like France is making good on its threats to ban citizenship to men who force their wives to wear the Islamic niqab or burqa (full face and body covering), which is the government's prerogative. Citizenship is a gift, not a right, and if you don't want to play by the rules of your host country, then tough luck. Westerners have to adapt to the rules and regulations of Islamic countries, the same should apply to them.

It seems that Immigration Minister, Eric Besson, stepped in on Tuesday and denied citizenship to a foreigner who allegedly forced his wife (who is French) to wear a niqab.
"It emerged during the inquiry and the interview process that this person forced his wife to wear the full veil, deprived her of freedom of movement with her face exposed and rejected the principles of secularism and equality between men and women," said Besson in a statement.
They are still debating whether to ban outright Burqas and niqabs, and are seeking legal advice. I'm sure we all know why that might be necessary.
I know there has been a lot controversy regarding governments dictating what a woman wears, but since the niqab and burqa are more of a political rather than religious statement, people should be more understanding. I don't think anyone has a problem with a head scarf, it's the burqas and niqabs that most people find offensive. It is a sign of female oppression and subjugation, and I would venture to say that most of the women, if not all, who wear those contraptions are forced to do so by their husbands, and they're probably far too afraid to admit that is not by their choice. According to statistics there are approximately 1,900 women who wear the niqab, which doesn't seem like many, but think of it in these terms: what if people were allowed to not wear any clothes in public. That would be 1,900 women walking around nude. Sometimes there just have to be laws to protect the innocent. Walking around in a black sack is as offensive as it would be to see someone walking around nude.
