Mamadou Sakho - A player for the future
Paris St. Germain’s teenage footballer Mamadou Sakho is being tracked by many of Europe’s top clubs including the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal. The French U-21 international, of Senegalese descent, is a versatile player who started off his career as a striker but now amazingly plays in the centre of the French club’s defence.

Given Sakho’s history of playing as a striker, the talented nineteen year old up and coming star has immense versatility on the football pitch as he can operate on the left hand side in addition to controlling the whole backline. His pace and aggression is an asset for PSG in the French Ligue 1 and the player is currently instrumental in the French club’s amazing turnaround from last season. PSG lie second in the league table and look like giving Lyon a run for their money in the champions’ bid for a seventh successive title.
One of the clubs that has Sakho on their radar is the English side Arsenal and given Arsene Wenger’s legendary love for wooing genuine young talents to North London for amazingly economical prices, it won’t be surprising if the French ‘professor’ makes an early scoop for PSG’s prized asset as early as the summer of the 2009/2010 season.
Well, Arsenal fans may be a bit circumspect at such a rumour as over the past few years many youngsters, with talent and determination, have graced the hallowed turf of the Emirates stadium but unfortunately failed to land any silverware and the finger of blame undoubtedly falls on the relative inexperience of these players. It remains to be seen if Wenger strictly follows his heart by going for the five million pound rated Sakho during the close season transfer window or follow his recent signing of Andrei Arshavin with the acquiring of a battle hardened experienced midfielder in the mould of Gennaro Gattusso and Torsten Frings. I
f Arsene Wenger has to get hold off Mamadou Sakho before other suitors arrive on the scene in addition to an experienced player, the Arsenal manager has to gamble by selling one of his star players. At this moment, Emmanuel Adebayor could be the man that could ultimately be sold off by Mr.Wenger for a whopping twenty million pounds(that’s the sort of amount that Barcelona and AC Milan are ready to pay for the Togolese to lure him out of the Emirates). The future of the African player of the year has come under scrutiny once again as reports suggest that the player could infact be heading out of N5 at the end of the current season.
Adebayor’s form this season has been erratic and this is one reason why the Gunners have struggled this season. This is probably the best time to look for players who have the experience of winning titles and not just scouting for raw talents who fail to keep up the strain of maintaining the pressure of the Premier League towards the end of the season.
As far as the current Arsenal team are concerned there is a genuine chance that the Gunners would fail to qualify for the Champions League next season and if this happens many of the star players might look for jobs elsewhere but it is imperative for Arsene Wenger to keep hold of players like Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas and strengthen his side with the introduction of players like Mamadou Sakho for launching a massive title challenge.
