Libya's Playboy Son
I have mocked in the past indulgent Saudi royals and how they have squandered billions on toys, sex, gambling, drugs and alcohol while 30% of the nation's citizens live below the poverty line and the Saudi economy has little to show for investment despite untold wealth from oil. The House of Saudi simply are not motivated by higher principles of charity, education and culture. People with significantly less money than them have built incredible foundations, NGOs, museums and research centers. Saudi Arabia only recently opened up a university with potential.
In the meantime, the corrupt princes waste tons in the brothels and nightclubs of the French Rivera and European capital. Such novelties they spend money on include recently $50,000 for a gold-laced penis extender. I could not make this stuff up if I tired. And, of course, there are the endless purchases of U.S. armaments which are not for Saudi defense - the U.S. military insures that and the Saudi military personnel do not have the skills to man their toys - but are part of the price of U.S. support and their purpose is to support the U.S. defense industry: i.e. American jobs.
But this wasted opportunity to make use of a precious resources is not confined to the Gulf. And by waste I am here referring to indulgent waste, the water of Hugo Chavez in Venezuela is different and while equally unfortunate less repugnant. The waste of a Playboy is moved by the worst impulses and now that Libya's Qaddafi has been welcomed back by Western powers and can sell his nation's own massive holdings of oil, the Qaddafi sons aspire to match their Saudi counterparts. For years, they had few allowances, but now oil is selling and they have bundles of money. And they are equally grotesque and classless.
One of Qaddafi's sons was arrested in Switzerland (later released) recently after beating his maid in a hotel. And his other son thinks that the public treasury should pay for his New Year's party:
It's not everyone who can earn £1.2million for just one evening's work. But when the 'employee' is one of the world's most popular singers - and she turns up dressed like this - then some may consider the fee to be well justified.
These are the first pictures of Beyoncé Knowles performing at a private party for Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi's son Mutasim-Billah on New Year's Eve.

Beyonce, of course, looks beautiful as usually, but I just can't help but note how much of a douchbag Qaddafi's son looks. He looks so sleazy, like he goes back to his hotel room and snort coke, and he's sloppy with women, and just has an awful and obnoxious and arrogant demeanor. And he just looks like the biggest French asshole - he has an French arrogant douchy look.
It was tasteless of Beyonce to do this. She's already rich - I just watched her on '60 Minutes' and they stated she made over $80m last year - and she did not need the money. Just because the gig pays well, does not mean one should take it. Beyonce did not need it, but it is less about money and more about who's paying.
Doing business with the Qaddafi family - considering their tyrannical nature and that their money is not earned but exclusively due to their authoritative regime being able to claim all the oil - is not cool. This is a gig one needs to pass on.
While Beyonce danced, many Libyan remained in poverty and torture chambers.
