Libya's Ghadafi Tells Muslims To Wage Jihad Against Switzerland For Minaret Ban

POLITICS. .

There are certain leaders in this world that are just plain nuts, some are laughable, others would be laughable if they weren't so dangerous. We have Venezuela's Hugo Chavez, Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, North Korea's Kim Jong Il to name a few. Then we have Libya's crazy man Moammar Ghadafi who just declared jihad against Switzerland because of their ban on minaret vote last year. No, Switzerland did not ban Islam, or mosques, or Muslims worshipping in their mosques, it banned a piece of architecture that sits atop some mosques, and for that loony Ghadafi has called upon all Muslims to wage a holy war against the country of Swiss cheese and alps. How's that for wacko.

Rambling on, like Hugo Chavez loves to do, he spoke of boycotts and jihad but not al Qaeda type jihad, he described that kind of terrorism as a "kind of crime and a psychological disease." No, the kind of jihad he was advocating was different: "there is a big difference between terrorism and jihad, which is a right to armed struggle." Sorry to inform him but they are one and the same. So there's Ghadafi addressing

... representatives of several dozen Muslim countries in the Libyan city of Benghazi. "The masses of Muslims must go to all airports in the Islamic world and prevent any Swiss plane landing," he added, "to all harbors and prevent any Swiss ships docking, inspect all shops and markets to stop any Swiss goods being sold."

"Let us wage jihad against Switzerland, Zionism and foreign aggression," Gadhafi suggested at a meeting in Libya to mark the birth of the prophet Muhammad. "Any Muslim in any part of the world who works with Switzerland is an apostate, is against Muhammad, God and the Koran."

Calling Switzerland an "infidel, obscene state which is destroying mosques." Infidel, perhaps in his eye, but destroying mosques? Give me a break.

Of course the spat between the two nations could have somewhat to do with the fact that in 2008 Hannibal Ghadafi (Moammar's son) and his wife, Aline Skaf were arrested in Switzerland for abuse of servants at a luxury hotel they were staying at. Though they were immediately released and charges were eventually dropped Libya retaliated

... by withdrawing billions of dollars from Swiss banks, cutting off oil supplies, denying visas and recalling diplomats.

Ghadafi seems to operate on a childish tit for tat m.o.

On Feb. 15, Libya announced it would deny visas to citizens of Europe's visa-free travel area known as the Schengen bloc, to which Switzerland belongs. Tripoli said the move was in retaliation against a Swiss travel ban imposed last year on 200 Libyan citizens, including Gadhafi himself.

That ban blacklisted the Libyans from the whole Schengen area. It drew criticism this month from Italian officials, who said the Swiss had overreached.

Why can't these leaders just grow up!
