Let 'her' be the wife she was meant to be

LIFESTYLE. .

Serious debates are ongoing on the recent reunion of two Kenyan men in the UK over the weekend. Like any other Kenyan who came across the story as hot as it was when it got our attention, me and my friends had opinions that really triggered a serious debate that is still hanging somewhere incomplete.

I am of the idea, why can't these people be left to live the life they were meant to?

The two Kenyans living in London, Charles Ngengi (groom) and Daniel Chege Gichia, had a wedding on Saturday under the Civil Partnership Act, which recognizes a union of people of the same sex. According to that law, a civil partnership is defined as a legal marriage between gay and lesbian couples, though those joined under the law are known as partners, as opposed to the traditional husband and wife.

This is not African, yes but now what? let the guys move on with their lives. I am not suggesting that our constitution should in any way accommodate gay rights and I don't mean to disabuse the notion that the act was anti-African, its only that I think our ranting and raving will not bring any sense to the whole issue the guys are seas apart from us at least, good for them I am sure they would not live peacefully ever after if this happened here.

In several occasions British Members of Parliament have approached Kenya to include Lesbians and Homosexuals' rights to the Kenyan constitution which is a quest in futility, tell tale signs show clearly that Kenyans would not think twice to reject such a draft now that we are still waiting for a new constitution soon.

It is good though at times to accept the reality, as much as we view the act as a moral decay, it is catching up with us, in Mombasa and Nairobi, homosexuals and lesbians don't conceal their identities so much as they used to sometimes back.

Maybe we need a new approach to the issue with that we might see the need to recognize their rights as members of our society.
