Lebanon's Sexy Election

In recent years, Lebanon has an assassinated fmr. prime minister, a subsequent string of car bombs, a war with Israel and civil strife that momentarily broke into street fighting in Beirut. And the lead up to the June 8 election did not necessarily promise a new peaceful dawn (though that has turned out to be the case), nonetheless the Lebanese still found the time to approach an objectively incredibly important election with objectively sexy or something of that sort ads. Even in the tense political climate, the Lebanese or Beiruti laid-back feel came out in political ads by both March 14 and the opposition March 8.

First, although Hezbollah ran no such ads its coalition partner the Christian Free Patriotic Movement led by Gen. Michel Aoun crafted the most impressive ones borrowing the color orange from the Ukrainian freedom movement and the message of "change" from Obama:

But even this ad is tame in comparison to this:

The blue is the Future Patriotic Movement and the orange are the supporters about to "grow" the movement.

March 14 did not go for sex appeal, for the most part, instead it sought a more "intellectual" campaign:

This ad - "be equal and vote" - was the exception as it tired to attack the March 8 "be beautiful and vote" as shallow even though it also used a very beautiful chick:

Lebanese elections, thus far they have been all for show. If only they worked on building a real political system as hard as they work on said ads.
