A lawyer for a South Carolina teen accused of plotting to blow up his high school says the 18-year-old’s journal should be kept private.

Authorities have said Ryan Schallenberger detailed his plans to attack Chesterfield High School in a diary.

On Friday, lawyer Michael Meetz filed a motion to keep the government from making the diary public. That would happen if the journal is introduced in court as prosecutors seek to have the teen undergo a mental evaluation.

Meetz says the diary is a private document and that making it public would hurt his client’s chance at a fair trial.
