Lawless UP: Woman IPS officer dragged, beaten by colleagues
It can happen only in the lawless Uttar Pradesh where organised extortion and loot is the order of the day, rather than an exception.

In what can be termed a shocking incident that is hard to digest, a senior woman police officer, that too at the calibre of Superintendent of Police (Traffic), was dragged on the road by her subordinates in a vehicle after she objected to extortion by them in the name of traffic checking. The incident happened near the Jat Regimental Centre at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.
On receiving information from an Army jawan last evening that some traffic constables were demanding bribes from truckers near the Jat Regimental Centre, the Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena rushed to the area along with the gunner and driver in a private car to catch them red handed. When the 1990 batch officer of the state's Provincial Police Service reached the area, she saw the constables extorting bribes from the truck drivers.
When Saxena questioned the three constables present on the spot, they refused any extortion bid on which the officer asked her staff to check their pockets. Sensing trouble, the three constables attacked Saxena and later attempted to flee.
While they were fleeing, Saxena caught hold of the collar of one the constables, but instead of stopping the vehicle, the policemen sped away dragging the officer for more than a kilometer in full public view and finally threw her out on the road.
The woman police officer is now in hospital with a fractured hand and injuries on her head.
