Latvian Prime Minister Ivars Godmanis was seriously injured Wednesday in a road accident in downtown Riga, when his car and a minibus collided, his office said.

Godmanis’ condition was not critical, but he will remain hospitalized for several days with a skull fracture in the temple area and a concussion, his press adviser Krists Leiskalns said.

The driver of the minibus was not injured, but one elderly passenger suffered a leg injury, the Baltic News Service reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the accident.

Photos from the scene show damage to the right rear side of the prime minister’s Mercedes.
