Kuwaiti Foreign Minister" Netanyahu Is "Stupid and Insane"

POLITICS. .

When a client of the United States - which hosts tens of thousands of U.S. troops and was happy to let them invade another Arab country -starts attacking Israel you not it is getting bad and the already slim chances of regional acceptance for Israel are in free-fall.

Kuwait is not known for its champion of the Palestinian cause. In fact, in recent history it has been anti-Palestinian. Because of Yasir 'Arafat's foolish decision to bet on Saddam Husseini and endorse his invasion and occupation of Kuwait, after the liberation of the country by U.S. troops roughly 250,000 Palestinians resident in Kuwait (most of whom were non-political and amongst the most productive members of society) were forcibly expelled by the Sabah royal family in collective retaliation for 'Arafat's unthoughtful remarks. The actions of the Kuwait government were beyond the pale and incredibly cruel. There is no justification for such collective punishment. How would Kuwaitis feel if after 9/11 all Kuwaiti students in the U.S. were expelled? And the Kuwait press not only did not refrain from endorsing "ethnic cleansing" (a term they did not even shy away from), but the press descended into anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab nationalist rhetoric.

But that was then . . . nearly 20 years ago. Kuwaiti society has become pro-Palestinian, especially since the bloody images of the al-Aqsa Intifada. During the Gaza War 2008-2009, protests erupted on behalf of the Palestinians and the quasi-democratic Kuwaiti parliament considering banning a scheduled address by Palestinian Authority "president" Mahmoud Abbas because he was insufficient in condemning the attack (he and his rival Fatah faction privately supported the attack hoping for an Israeli dethronement of Hamas).

And now the Kuwaiti foreign ministry, which usually takes its cues from the U.S. president, is going after the Israeli prime minister in unequivocal terms:

Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Muhammad As-Sabah said on Sunday that the peace process was at a precarious stage and that Israel was governed by a "stupid and insane" prime minister.

As-Sabah referred to his Israel counterpart Avigdor Lieberman as "a foreign minister who has spoken about a nuclear attack on the Aswan Dam."

As-Sabah went on to say that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has refused to deal with the core issues at the heart of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

As a result, the Kuwaiti foreign minister stated, Netanyahu was positioning himself against the entire Arab world.

Do not be surprised if upon U.S. dictates, the foreign minister is removed or issues a "clarification". But for now it is nice and amusing to see a Gulf oil shiekh going after Israel.
