Korean mountaineer Eun Sun Oh reached the summit of the famous Himalayan peak Nanga Parbat, on Friday, July 10, 2009. She was leading an expedition including mountaineers from different countries – Korea, Austria, UK, and Canada. Forty-four years old Miss Oh has thus become world’s first woman to surmount 12 mountain peaks, each at least 8000 meters high.
According to news sources, the expedition had started on last month, June 19th, and ten climbers including Eun Sun Oh stepped on the summit of Nanga Parbat. Miss Oh means to also scale the rest of the two 8000-meter-high peaks of the world and, for this purpose, her next destination for mountaineering is the Gashabrum-I peak (Karakorum) where she is expecting to start her climb on July 17, 2009.
The current expedition, however, sadly resulted in the death of an Austrian mountaineer named Wolfgang Koelblinger who fell prey to an accident while climbing down the summit. The rest of the adventurers ere reported to have safely climbed down the summit.
