King Abdullah Canal Polluted
A fact-finding committee was assigned recently to investigate an incident of contamination which affected King Abdullah's water Canal. The committee’s investigations found that Israel has violated the Wadi Araba treaty, and was responsible for polluting the water, while also accounting part of the responsibility on the Water Authority employees who didn’t deal with the matter within an appropriate period of time.

“Water coming from Lake Tiberias and Al Mukhaibeh wells among other sources were all contaminated with oil,” the source said, adding the ministry and the JWA (Jordan Water Authority) were told about the incident on Sunday but “they did not take immediate action”.
For his part, Jordan Valley Authority Secretary General Musa Jamaani "rejected the claim as baseless. He said if there actually had been a delay in responding to the contamination, people in Amman would not have water to drink today”.
“The water distribution programme in the capital was not affected… workers in the Jordan Valley worked around-the-clock to empty, clean and refill the polluted parts. Such work would normally require five to six days,” but the mission was completed in almost half that time, Jamaani pointed out.

Oil waste and sewage was detected in the canal last month, and caused the ministry of water and irrigation to stop pumping water from the canal. Reports have mentioned that Israel has already compensated Jordan with a hundred and eighty thousand cubic meters of fresh water, and is expected to pump an additional amount later on.
