Well it is not only the nomenclature that sound weird but the information that the Bungalow keeper, at a quite and salubrious destination in Uttra Khand, Nainital, prvided to us, that was worth taking notice of, particularly when he showed us a photograph of the bungalow, taken about one hundred and ten years back, in black and white, properly framed, and having the pride of place in one of the rooms.
“The British rulers of those days used to hang the rebellious Indians with those cedar trees and bury them near the ridge down below” he pointed at two huge trees with awe and confirmation of sorts, “that this place came to be known as Kilbury later !.” The keeper informed.
The spooky picture painted by the informer put aside, the place has lot of snow during winters and is the tourists ‘must see’ destination. Huge trees of pine and cedar and the night creature squeaking loudest make the ambiance very thrilling though. You can have a view of the entire Himalayan Range and the loftiest of the peaks come alive to your wishful eyes for a treat of sorts.
Beyond Kilbury are two other tribal villages by the names Pangot and Bagar. A visit to these villages will fill your nostrils with a very pleasing fragrance of the pines. And to double the charm, the clouds have their permanent route to rise to the highest Cheena peak, at more than eight thousand feet.
So next time when you go there, just Kill anxiety and Bury boredom and be back to Nainital in Uttra Khand (UK) India.
