As per the newspapers reports, the victims of the Khandhamal riots point fingers at a key RSS Functionary and Local BJP MLA. It was a well planned,organised riot which started on 24th August and is still continuing.
It has left 27000 homeless,38 dead and forcing thousands to flee and take shelter in the forests, the number is increasing everyday.The fire spread to other places also destroying heritage churches too.
The murder of Swami Lakshamananand Saraswati on 23rd August was a Maoist act as per the reports coming in, but 100 pariwar activists alongwith 400 locals attacked the Christians forcing them to flee, the police was a mute spectator.
The names of Ajit Mahapatra a RSS joint organising secretary for Orrissa, West Bengal and Sikkim and Karinder Majhi the local BJP MLA are cropping up in this organised crime against Dalit Christians. May be they are involved, maybe not, in fact they are denying it.
It was supposed to be a systematic attempt to cleanse the area of Dalits who had converted to Christianity. Saffron flags were hoisted on the houses and shops of Hindus so that they were not attacked by the mob when there was a procession being taken out carrying slain leader's body.
The ethnic clashes between the Kandha Tribe and the Pana Dalits has taken a turn for the worst. The discontent which started as a small fire is now blazing and raging as uncontrolled forest fire taking everyone in its grip. The spurt of new violence everyday is not helping. There is lack of sincere effort to contain this trouble, but till it is controlled, as usual it is the innocent who is paying the price and it is quite possible that the real culprits may never be caught and punished.
