The reservations of the Pakistan army on the Kerry-Lugar Bill continue even after the explanatory note issued by the bill’s movers. News sources reported of an unnamed military source that told media about Pak Army’s continued refusal to accept the bill.
The source in question is reported to have added that the military considered the explanatory note as lacking any legal status, and that the army’s position on the issue remains the same. Earlier, the bill’s mover John Kerry, after meeting with the country’s military and political leadership, had stated that only PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif had reservations left on the bill after the explanatory note. However, the military source in question said that Kerry’s was not talking about the military but only the political leadership of the country.
In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations said that the parliament was sovereign and it would have the final say in accepting or rejecting the Kerry-Lugar Bill. Despite the fact that the parliament is having serious concerns on the bill, analysts see clear signs of the acceptance of the bill by the government.
