Kabul Decorated for Oath Ceremony
Kabul will witness the oath taking ceremony of its future five year’s ruler today November 19, 2009. The attendance of regional leaders and guests from the western Allies of Afghanistan is awaited.

Strict security measures have been in place since yesterday afternoon in the capital. Today has been announced an official holiday. Kabul’s International Airport will remain closed for all domestic and international flights for at least eight hours. Major parts of the city are closed to traffic. Most roads leading to the city center have been closed since yesterday afternoon and officials have requested the residents to avoid unnecessary travels inside the city.
Hamid Karzai was announced the winner of a controversial elections marred by claims and proofs of widespread fraud in the process. He is taking oath of his office for another five years term bringing him huge challenges a head including increasing Taliban insurgency, corruption and lack of good governance.
Expectations both inside and outside the country are very high from him particularly in tackling the massive corruption that has brought Afghanistan to the number two position in the last of most corrupt states. Forming a good government, fight against corruption, eradication of drug trade, and ending the ongoing battle against Taliban and Al-Qaeda are the challenges facing the President.
Following his oath of the office, Karzai will have to form a cabinet, which will have to be approved by the Parliament, in two weeks.
Pressure has been mounting on Karzai for the formation of a national government and disallowing warlords in his cabinet. Speculation is high at the present on the formation of a future working cabinet since the sitting cabinet has failed baldy in nearly all areas.
