Just when you think Mexico couldn't sink any lower: Mexican Playboy puts nude Virgin Mary on cover

POLITICS. .

I will not attempt to claim sainthood. My childhood Catholic school rosaries and bible were packed away long ago along with my faith in the Catholic Church and their men of cloth who claim unconditional holiness. I will also be honest in my thoughts of women. I find them mesmerizing and enchanting. I love the way they walk, their smell, their passion, compassion, strength, endurance, and tenderness. I, personally, could never and would never deny the fact, that to me, a woman's body, in all of nature's glory, is nothing short of a divine, miraculous creation by God himself.

The last few years in Mexico have left our society hardened. Daily news of mass mutilations, kidnappings, blood, and death have left us with little faith. Society has lost all morals, values, and human resemblance, Mexico has hit rock bottom, we can't get any lower; or can we?

Playboy Mexico released it's Christmas edition featuring model Maria Florencia Onori in nothing but an angelic white cloth with a stained-glass window behind her. The pose and facial expression evoke the docile and innocent image of the Virgin Mary seen in many paintings and statues. The Spanish headline "Te adoramos, Mary" translate to: We adore you, Mary.

The release was timed for the day before Mexico's traditional Day of the Virgin of Guadalupe, a celebration of an apparition of the Virgin in Mexico. The entire month of December is filled with images, parades, and homages depicting the Blessed Virgin, however, Mexico wasn't ready to see Her on the cover of a gentleman's magazine, nude.

"With all the things in the world they could have done, they shouldn't have picked such a delicate topic, something that is so important to those of us who are believers," said one resident.

As of Thursady, more than 89,000 editions of the 100,000 copies had been sold. The press director of Lyrsa Editores, the company that publishes the magazine in Mexico, said there were no plans to print more.

Update 10:00 p.m. 12 Diciembre 2008: Playboy U.S.A. apologized for the unapproved Playboy Mexico edition. To read more please follow link.
