Jordanian Police Arrest Supporters of Palestinians

The Jordanian authorities have once again made it clear which side they support in the Arab-Israeli conflict.

After dozens of Jordanians took to the streets to protest the importation of Israeli produce in solidarity with occupied Palestinians [2/3 of Jordanian nationals are Palestinians]. Jordan signed a peace treaty with Israel in 1994.

The Jordanian protest was broken up by police under the rubric that the demonstrators did not have a permit. This is nonsense. In Middle Eastern countries, spontaneous demonstrations take place all the time and as long as they do not make too much noise or disrupt traffic they are allowed to go on. Had the Jordanians been marching in support of their idiot, phony King I am sure the authorities would not only have allowed it to continue but even encouraged it.

The Jordanian authorities clamp down on pro-Palestinian activism not because they are opposed to the boycott plan, or worry about offending Israel, but because they are afraid of a chain reaction. [For the record, Jordan claims it imports from Israeli only fruits and vegetables that are not available in the Kingdom, and bans any grown in the Occupied Territories of 1967; not to be confused with the Occupied Territories of 1948.]

Jordan's Hashemite Monarch has a contentious history with the Palestinian struggle. On the one hand, it has been generous to be the only Arab country to give Palestinians citizenship. But it committed one of the worst crimes against Palestinians in 1970 known as Black September. The Palestinians have since them remained quite and did not loudly object to the 1994 treaty with the Usurping Entity Known As Israel.

But the authorities worry that if the Palestinian community gets energized, it is already very politicized, it will lead to a confrontation with the Jordanian ruling authorities [For the record, with the exception of the Hashemite family which originates from Mecca; one could say that even the 1/3 of Jordanians whom do not call themselves Palestinians as actually Palestinians since all of Jordan was originally part of Palestine and TransJordan only came into being as a consolation prize to the Hashemities after the British failed to install them as Kings of Arabia.]

Jordan's King Abduallah worries about instability among Palestinians whom may want to take the reins of power in Jordan so as to help their brethren in Palestine more. That would be the day. I would very much like to see Palestinians do that and force the Hashemite monarchy into exile in some European capital. But Queen Raynia can stay since she is Palestinian.
