Jordanian Petrol Refinery Company Case
POLITICS.
Wa'd AbuZurayk.
After earlier denials of release on bail, The State Security Court (SSC) had set bail and decided to release 4 defendants charged with bribery and abuse of public office.
Defendents are being charged of misconduct related to the Jordanian Petrol Refinery Company (JPRC).
“The four defendants are: Former chairman of the Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company (JPRC) and former finance minister Adel Qudah, former JPRC director general Ahmad Rifai, the prime minister’s economic adviser Mohammad Rawashdeh and business tycoon Khaled Shahin, who was a bidder for a JPRC mega-expansion project, that was later brought to a halt.”-The Jordan Times.

“...Qudah, Rifai and Rawashdeh were charged with bribery and exploitation of public office, while Shahin was charged with three counts of bribery and three counts of conspiracy to commit acts of exploitation of public office.”-The Jordan Times.
The defendants’ lawyers reported that the State Security Court had set bail at JD150,000 for each defendant. An amount of money that approximates around 212,000$.
Jordanians are divided into supporters and accusers, while common sense says that lay people would love to be assured that their country’s scarce money is not being manipulated by those who have the power to use it improperly.
