"Jewish Professor Has Sex With Daughter"

A Columbia professor, David Epstein, was recently arrested for having sex with his 24-year old daughter.

Think about this headline. What does it evoke? What do you immediately think when you read it? Why does the author state that the professor is Jewish? What does him being Jewish or Judaism have to do with incest? You read a headline like this and can only think, "This author noted the irrelevant Jewish faith of the professor only to tie Jews to such a heinous act for malicious purposes of antisemitism; to tarnish the image of Jews and breed repulsion against them."

If that was my intention that would be accurate. But I assure you that was not. I wrote that headline for one reason and one reason only: to grab attention and make a point about anti-Muslim animus. The headline is a play, hence the quotes, on anti-Muslim schemes.

I would never note let alone emphasize the faith of anyone if reporting on a crime where the faith is irrelevant, which is the case in most instances (Jewish extremists in Israel and Muslims extremists are exceptions, for example). But here on Instablogs there is a frequent writer who looks high and low for this or that bastardly act committed by Muslims and then notes the Muslim faith, as if it has anything to do with the crime, for the sole reason of demeaning all Muslims and Islam.

This writer once had a piece about a boy sexually abused in the United Arab Emirates and wanted to remind us that the man who committed the abuse is a Muslim. Why the reminder? Is child abuse the sole monopoly of Muslims? In the West the Catholic Church ran an entire network of pedophiles and for decades sought to hide their crimes and even rotated known child abusers to other missions. But does anyone dear to make a comment smearing all Catholic or even all Catholic bishops with the record of the highest Catholic authority? Of course not. And justifiably so.

But when it comes to Muslims the one atrocious act of this or that Muslim is used to paint a picture against all Muslims and Islam. The writer in question usually likes to take terrorism committed by Muslims and tie that to Islam. But now, demonstrating her obsessive and deranged bigotry, she'll take anything - no matter how pervasive this crime is in the West - and try to tarnish the image of all Muslims.

This is pure bigotry. Can you imagine if someone did this against Jews?! But I guarantee you if the Columbia professor who had sex with his daughter were a Muslim the anti-Islam bigots would be busy boasting about his Muslim faith and how this is a reflection of the "perversion" of Islam. And he would be the "Muslim professor" just like our Instablogs colleague who constantly writes "Muslim man beats wife" (as if only Muslim men commit domestic violence, did you know that America's rate of domestic violence is akin to Syria's?) or "Muslim man takes shit on highway" or some hateful nonsense like that which is always "Muslim man" no matter whether the indicted individual even cares about his Muslim identity.

And anti-Islam bigots are not the pioneers in this regard, but follow the tactics of white supremacists: the Council of Conservative Citizens, a noted white supremacist group, has a daily roll of news items highlighted on their front page (I will not link to this disgusting site, and I only heard about them after fmr. Senate leader Trent Lott was identified as a fan) and, no surprise, they like to just coincidentally pick stories which reflect poorly on this or that black person. In just a few seconds I came across these headlines (again, no link): Black serial killer pleads guilty to three more murders. Two others pendings.; Blacks performing WORSE in schools since Obama took over.; Marvel has history of publishing extremist “Black Power” comics. (This headline, I must say, reminded me of a bigoted attack by the New York Post, who else?, against a planned cartoon debut on American television featuring Muslim superheroes. The NY Post's bigoted zealots were appalled that American children may grow up to like a Muslim character just like white supremacists find it an affront that comic book-reading children would be impressed by a black character); Black pop star Jay-Z holds black only after-party following Brit Awards (Did you know that Jay-Z was black and that he's a "pop" star?).

I could go on, but you get the idea. Anti-Muslim bigots mimic the white supremacists. They also look for this or that incriminating headline to justify their bigotry and seek to stroke an irrational hatred of all Muslims by incessantly highlighting this or that offense committed by people who happen to be Muslim just like the white supremacists want you to hate blacks as they highlight a daily stream of headlines designed to evoke a knee-jerk resentment of blacks.

We recognize it as nothing more than depraved bigotry when the target are blacks or Jews, why are Muslims exempt from even the most minimal regards of decency and tolerance?

To constantly seek to highlight this or that act committed by a few criminals or terrorists and link it to an entire community and professed faith is a reflection of nothing more than the sort of morally bankrupt, black-hearted, and the most fanatical, obsessive and sick bigotry.
