JAP MAALA DIAPERS ETC
MAALA ,JAP, DARGAH, FAITH HEALING—AND DIAPERS!
A religious leader announces a rare ‘miraculous’ mass meditation and pranayama session in which a million people will assemble at a huge ground and jointly pray for world peace-all clad only in a langoti [traditional loin cloth or diaper !!]
MAALA ,JAP, DARGAH, FAITH HEALING—AND DIAPERS!
The people assemble, the session takes off and an hour later a fight breaks out among a section of the ‘yogis’. The media ask the guru how this idea can achieve world peace if it cannot ensure peace even among those assembled. The Guru known for his sense of humour tells TV people—‘At least I made many of them langotiya yaars.’
This is a scene from my forthcoming Bollywood film ‘Langotiya yaar’ .
My script writer has been inspired by a recent news report to the effect that a Chief Minister of a southern state alleged in the media that his opponents intended to kill him with black magic. The CM whose strained relationship with his governor is well known rushed to his astrologer who advised him to ward of evil by doing surya namaskar in the NUDE!
My private detective Alphonso got to the bottom of this matter and found something hilarious .It seems that the political advisors of the CM told him to re- read Chanakya texts but the CM preferred to consult his astrologer.
Alphoso tells me that the astrologer has been persuaded by the Governor to give the ridiculous advice—of nude surya namaskar .The Govenor plans to catch the CM literally with his pants down.
An article in TOI tells us that more and more people are now eschewing jap, maala, dargah and faith healing options in favour of psychiatry.I had often written in the past that for a slew of reasons Indians place far more faith in superstition based solutions rather than science based approaches to the resolution of mental and other problems. I am glad things are changing and gurus, dargah based healers, faith healers etc may be facing bad days.
My psychiatrist friend Raja Rajeshwari of Chennai says that she has been besieged by several large companies to counsel employees numbering in thousands. Hitherto these companies might have invited a Guruji to give a sermon but all that is passé.
Psychiatry and clinical psyhology have grown by leaps and bounds and a range of fine medication and counselling techniques are now available in the west and will soon be available here too.
By the way one of the best techniques I know to beat the blues is simple—laugh heartily Gurus call this hasya yoga. For once they are right!
