IS IT ALL ABOUT CRICKET
Cricket, spreading all across and spreading all over the world a blazing fever among all .Isn’t it a high time to proclaim Cricket as our national game? Hockey is wiped out from Indian Memories. Number of brand endorsements of Mahendra Singh Dhoni is higher than the number of Indian National Hockey Team Players. Monthly pay cheques of cricket players are much higher than annual income of Indian Hockey Players.
For cricket, Sponsors are bidding to get a pie in the mad race. Media is on a high to cover all the abstract news about cricketers. Dhoni getting engaged, Yuvraj is having an affair, Sachin tweets over twitter, Sreshant got a new hair style, so on and so forth.
A bat and ball game has a power to change the marketing strategies of the companies. Japanese’s, Koreans, Chines and German companies are hiring cricket stars to endorse their brands and these are the counties where cricket is a no name. Bollywood, taken a step back and postpone the movie releases because of world cup matches, private complies declared half days, state government declared holiday, toll roads recoded less of vehicles and low earnings. A bat and a ball and 11 players have the power to affect the economy of the nation.
Where is Hockey gone among all these flashes of cricket news? Is Hockey really getting a due respect, when we call it as our national game? IPL, teams are going to be public very soon, getting listed over Indian Stock exchange. Money is rolling out in cricket and people will buy stocks of Deccan chargers, King’s eleven… It's raining crores for the World Cup-winning Indian cricket team, cash amounts, luxury villas worth Rs 9 cr each, and what not and why not they are word champions. The same politicians who were relishing the cricket matches in stadium have to contemplate on the current state of our National Game as well.
Expressing grief and writing comments will not help our Indian Hockey Team. They are equally potential but the talent needs to be showcased, they are struggling for sponsorships, our National Level players are unknown and nameless faces in the crowd of million. They need resources, infrastructure, recognition and sponsorships. In past we have demonstrated our strength in this game. 1928, our team won its first Olympic gold medal and until 1956, the Indian men's team remained unbeaten in the Olympics, winning six gold medals in a row. In total, the Indian hockey team has won eight Olympics gold medals — the highest among all national teams.
Getting the same glory back to nation requires a lot of our support and are we ready for that or we will proud in picking up a bat and shy in choosing a hockey instead.
