Is Facebook decaying with spam and scams?
Its been a whole week of it, I clicked something on my feed about a new app, but when I got to the page it looked like adware to me so I closed it, but that was already too late, this thing had posted on the walls of all my friends and tagged them all in its picture. A minor inconvenience for each of them. Then a few days later the message “FB vkz79 glitch tο sеe the chat hіstοry of your friends lіst!” arrived on my wall and in my inbox. Another scam had had the network. When its not a scam then its spam, here's another gem from the inbox:

heya! I am a female!!!I really enjoy your entire page!!! i do believe it's cool I've a few hot pictures. i'm dying to show off. u interested? make me aware. contact me: [email deleted] I won't answer through the facebook
The extra exclamation marks are to confirm that she is indeed female, and does indeed enjoy my page- my ENTIRE page, no wonder she wants to share those photos with me. It was this kind of “see my hot photos” spam that caused me to leave Bebo some time ago. Facebook will need to beef up its security to avoid going the same way as Bebo- I mean you don't see anyone making a summer blockbuster about that website.
The difficulty is Facebook is a for-profit entity, that thrives on advertising just like the scams that target it. Mark Pincus, the CEO of Zynga, makers of Farmville Mafia Wars and other Facebook games is on the record as saying
I did every horrible thing in the book to, just to get revenues right away. I mean we gave our users poker chips if they downloaded this zwinky toolbar which was like, I dont know, I downloaded it once and couldn’t get rid of it.
Its becoming increasingly clear that its time for a non-commercial alternative to Facebook.
