Is Bapuji relevant to Indian politics now?
Since last so many days we and all media were focused on Memorabilia of Bapuji, the father of our great nation. Mr Vijay Mallya having enormous money bought it with pride and is ready to donate it to the Government. He has lot of money being a liquor Baron. But he forgot that it is more important to cultivate the ideas and the nationalist spirit of Bapuji than buying his left over.

Bapuji was against the liquor and was absolutely for the ban of it. Somehow, over the period of time we have forgotten the real imagination of Bapuji toward the "Rising India” and have made him more symbolic than following his ideology. He would have definitely wept to see some one buying his Glasses by the money accrued by the bushiness he was opposed to!
How many students will accurately tell the exact name and date of birth of Mahatmaji? I fear few. The same Gujarat, where Bapuji was borne saw the worst ever communal divide. Forget the political parties, even small man forgot that he belongs to a place where from the word nonviolence originated. For days it was insignificant what Bapuji left for India and more to his birth place. If we go on discussing this issue the more political it will be. But, honestly, how many believe whatever has happened to the Railway coach and after effects of it were right?
He had a great vision of free India. We have now elections. How fair play will be there? Bapuji will be remembered for his sacrifice, his thoughts and what not. But at last the elections will be focused on caste, religion, money power, muscle power and without any relevance to thoughts and ideologies of Bapuji.
I do remember a story told in school long back. One mother asked Bapuji to teach her son not to steal gud (Sugar). He asked her to come back after a week. After a week or so Bapuji told her son why not to steal and how to remain disciplined. His mother asked Bapuji, why did he take a week to tell such a small thing? He replied back saying I was too doing it without "BA" knowing it. First I saw to it that I can control myself then preach. How many of us can do it? "Never preach what you don't follow".
In coming days, we are going to listen many preachers, preaching what they don't follow.
But we have also seen the effects of Bapuji's ideology playing a major part in getting a rational justice. A silent march provoked country to book some intolerant leaders or their sons and being held culprit. Please recall what happened in Jessica Lal case. So those who criticize the ideology of Mahatmaji should and must take a lesson from it. But unfortunately such incidences are rare and most of these go unnoticed.
Lastly it is more important to follow the ideology of Mahatmaji than to get his glasses today and may be some more items tomorrow.
