Is America Reaching A Tax-Tipping Point?
The Economist magazine recently noted that the United States may soon be reaching a tax-tipping point.

What is such a tipping point? Currently, there are limits to the growth of government. Democrats and the liberal special-interest unAmerican groups would like very much do significantly increase Leviathan. But Democrats know that in order to increase spending eventually Congress would have to increase taxes. But the American people are almost uniformly opposed to tax increases. In fact, an election day poll found that 95% of Americans are opposed to a tax increase; over 80% opposed increase taxes just on the rich that they themselves do not have to pay. Americans like to keep their money, and rightly so!
But there is a trick in getting away with increasing government spending. A tax-tipping point. If Congress can just increase taxes on the rich, then there would be presumable no general revolt against government spending. As The Economist put it:
"And they fear a “tax tipping-point”, when a majority of Americans pay little or no taxes and discover that they can vote themselves goodies paid for by others. Currently, the top 20% of earners pay 69% of federal taxes, and that share is rising."
Nothing could be better calculated to destroy the American spirit. Such an occurrence would almost render individualism a product of yesteryear, rather than the beating heart of America. I fear greatly about this happen. I think this would destroy America. I am so angry at those unAmerican left-wingers for trying to achieve such a process. I fear that the growing Hispanic community might be receptive to such a welfare state, since many of them are low middle-class Democrats offering free health care et al might appear appealing. The problem is that America's public schools do not do a good job of educating children about the merits of freedom, responsibility and self-reliance.
