# The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples asks countries to give tribal peoples more control over the land and resources by either returning confiscated territory or by paying compensation.
# In the General Assembly, 143 countries voted for it, 11 abstained and Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, voted against it.
# Indigenous peoples estimated to up to 370 million people, globally, represent a demographic minority who are considered to among the world's most disenfranchised peoples.
Has UN not diverted attention by making the law non-binding? Can the Indigenous populations be compensated monetarily?
