India's Reasons To Remember 9/11
Satyagraha and civil disobedience movement played important role in shattering Britisher's dream of extending their rule in India. Gandhiji's firm belief in the supremacy of God and his strong advocacy of non -violent means enabled Indians to realize their inherent tendencies. The greater achievement was recognition of supremacy of one's soul and "power of togetherness". Belief in collective power finally became the prize possession of the Indians.Today shrinking villages, sandwiched between demands of modernity and calls of traditions, suggest clearly that we have made a grave mistake by ignoring the vision of Gandhi, who wanted Indian villages to retain their bonds with ancient beliefs or Indianness.

The Indians have another special reason to remember September 11,apart from invocation of Satyagraha and al-Qaida's attack on America. On this very day Swami Vivekananda delivered his famous speech at Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893.One wonders why this unparalleled triumph of India's cultural supremacy in West is ignored by Gen Next torch-bearers.On this occasion he stated that "I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true.I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth." Is anyone listening ?
