Indian Political League
With the 15th Lok Sabha election round the clock, political parties are gearing up with different regional parties with the sole objective of forming the next government in New Delhi. It is a crucial moment for the National level parties to go around the country to beg support from regional parties.

The Congress-led UPA government’s present position is 227 MPs. This does not mean that UPA government is going to score same number in coming general election. The party supremo Ms. Sonia Gandhi is doing her best to win the hearts of voters. To the extend, many party members like Jairam Ramesh and Oscar Fernandez left their portfolio and have joined to back her and to devote themselves fully to party campaign. Her recent statement in which she said that the greatest enemy is not external but within the party. In a sense it is clear sign she perceives that in politics, there are no permanent friends and enemies. Unpredictability is part and parcel of politics.
The Congress Working Committee also had come to the conclusion that the party is better placed now than 2004 to bargain and negotiate with current and potential allies. The party spokesperson has clarified that the post poll 2004 ties would continue except CPI-M and new alliances would be considered after the polls. There would not be pre-poll common minimum programme and it would be done after the polls. The Congress strategy has left to the State Congress Party leader to make necessary pre poll alliances. The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee will have the choice to have alliance with the Assam United Democratic Front of Badaruddin Ajmal in view of disenchantment with the ruling alliance with the BPF and the formation of a new political party by the tea tribes. The General Secretary Mr. Rahul Gandhi recently announced on behalf of the party that in forthcoming general election Congress Party is not going to ally with any National level party, but he did not rule out the possibility of having seat sharing agreement at the State level.
While the main opposition party, the Bharatiya Janata Party, leading the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is concerned with more and more regional parties deserting. The NDA is now desperately trying to tie up with other small parties to have new formation in next government. The party has projected Mr. Narendra Modi and the MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan as icons in pre-poll campaign. The greatest opportunity for BJP is that it has stronghold in state level not that of Congress party which seems little shaky in the state level. If the party works with conviction and able to influence the voters there can be little hope for BJP. On the other hand the biggest threat will be allies that are acting pricey in seat-sharing talks and could desert the BJP in the post-poll scenario if its numbers are not impressive.
On the other hand Former Prime Minister and Janata Dal supremo H.D. Deve Gowda’s announcement on Monday the formation of the Third Front, an amalgamation of eight parties including the Left, brought as a political alternative to the Congress and BJP. The third front party is basically the regional parties and they hope to lead the next coalition. Deve Gowda the Prime Ministerial candidate and who lead role in giving shape to the formation of the Front said that the agenda of the new outfit would be unveiled at the rally. The buzz can not be ruled out in political circle about the possibility of a Third Front government coming to power in May. In fact, formation of third front comes another opportunity for regional political parties to switch over whomever they like. It is no doubt that the regional parties will have the command in the coalition government. Recently, statement made by the Railway Minister Mr. Lalu Prasad Yadav is apt in this regard in Indian political scenario. But Congress party seems apparently deny the fact.
