How trustworthy is media?

POLITICS. .

IBers( Instablogers), I have always thought about this one for long. I wish to share my vies with you once again. Well, once I was struggling in my house to find out which local newspaper to trust. My mom, a strict follower of CPM advised me not to read a certain newspaper since it was strictly anti-CPM whereas my aunt threw away a certain paper because it was anti-Congress. I finally decided to do something else because reading a mere newspaper seemed to me like a decision to be made. Well, my point is, isn't a form of mass-media supposed to be without any biases? I fail to understand why we cannot get hold of an unbiased, trustworthy piece of information. It seems to me like a war of TRPs and sales, more than a war of providing better information. While we wait to see something worthy, the news channels show us how Abhishek and Aishwarya's marriage are taking place in a hush hush manner, or how some new born child is supposed to be Kalpana Chawla's reborn life. How long people? I mean, I had attended a seminar which had all the leading journalists and media personalities as speakers. An Aaj Tak reporter( very sadly I do not remember the name), bravely said that NDTV did not show the footage of Abhi-Aish marriage and they did; and added that they are proud to announce that on that certain day, Aaj Tak's TRP was higher than NDTV. Come on, I mean, I do not need the footage of their marriage when I have shows like "We The People" and "Big Fight" to watch. I also like CNN's new venture of "Citizen Journalist".

I, as a fellow citizen and budding journalist asked him about what is their opinion of India- is it a country where mysticism and supernaturalism is given more importance than reality? Or is it a place where sadhus and sanyasis are the heroes of modern day. He said, "We show only what the public wants to see!" I kept mum and cursed myself for asking such a dumb question, without realizing that it is not only the media which is becoming dumb but also the Indians. Well, I still do not think that this kind of media reporting should be nurtured and we should stop watching such insane programs. Also, a constant effort to see the truth, without any favorism should be maintained.
