Honda charged 64,000 pounds for racial discrimination case

Car giant Honda was ordered to pay 64,000 pounds to the Indian origin worker, Kalmesh Shah, who was forced to quit the job due racial discrimination while working in the company.

Shah was harassed and refused toilet breaks by the supervisor, leading to the deterioration of physical and mental condition .Shah worked in the company for nearly two years.

Shah took Honda to a tribunal that finally ruled positive discrimination. "This was never about the money; it was about standing up to a company that treated me like a third-class citizen because of my race. I was victimized for speaking out and blowing the whistle “Shah told reporters.

He was awarded with :-

15000 pounds for playing with his feelings

10,000 pounds for psychiatric

18,496.21 pounds salary losses since he resigned

28,356 pounds for the future loss of earnings plus the interest to all

Taking the net award to around 64,000 pounds

Honda spokesman while speaking to the reports said "We have accepted the findings of the Employment Tribunal, some nine months ago, and consider this case to be a very unfortunate 'one-off' and deeply regret the offence to Mr. Shah caused by an individual associate".

The tribunal gave its final ruling in October but has only recently awarded the financial settlement.

The tribunal ruled: "We consider that there is evidence of a 'cover-up' on the shop floor, of the fact that untrained employees were being used to avoid having to stop the line."

I believe this type judgment given may help us to eradicate the racism from the company arena so that all the people should work freely and throw in to their best for the company.
