Heavy Rainfall Boosts Dams' Levels
Around this time of the year last year, I wrote about heavy rainfall which saved Jordan from announcing a state of drought. However, this year is a bit different, in a positive way. New statistics are out; according to the Ministry of Water and Irrigation, Jordan’s dams currently hold half of their total capacity after three days of rainfall and snow.

“The amount of rainfall received since late October exceeded 70 per cent of the Kingdom’s long-term annual average of 8.5 billion cubic metres.
Water officials recently indicated that the current wet season has supplied Jordan, the fourth water-poorest nation in the world, with adequate water amounts. However, they cautioned that several exceptional rainy seasons are needed to replenish diminishing underground water sources.” –The Jordan Times.
All of this is great news for Jordanians who actually worry about a time when there will be enough water for everyone… and for those who use water without really caring about their grandchildren who may not have the leisure of washing their cars I say: use water reasonably, we cannot afford any mistakes in this area. Jordan is the fourth water-poorest nation in the world, as we will not be able to survive without it!
