Has Camp David Brought Stability?

POLITICS. .

It isn't surprising really. Since the beginning Western advocates of Zionism have made it clear that they do not recognize the rights of Arabs, and, in any case, those rights are subdued to the goals of Zionist colonization.

The man who gave his name to the Balfour Declaration (the British empire's statement in support for a "Jewish homeland" in Palestine, from which the entire bloodletting of the Arab-Israeli conflict descends) summed it up as follows: "And Zionism, be it right or wrong, good or bad, is rooted in age-long traditions, in present needs, and future hopes, of far profounder import than the desires and prejudices of the 700,000 Arabs who now inhabit that ancient land. In my opinion that is right."

You see, Zionist even if wrong and bad is more important than the rights (dismissed as "prejudices") of the hundreds of thousands of Arabs who live on that land. That has always been the terms of reference for Zionists. That the Palestinians their well-being and the interests of the Arab people as a whole are inconsequential to the goals of Zionism. That the colonialist objective of European Jewry should be higher than indigenous rights.

And thus it should not amuse us today when we here its contemporary equivalent in the form of the oft-heard expression by US diplomats that "Israeli security is paramount". Israel's definition of its security must be above all, and never has a US official ever expressed concern for Palestinian security.

The Arabs simply do not matter and everything must be judged from the vantage point of Israel. This is why US journalists, polemicists and officials speak without hesitation that the 1979 Camp David accords between Israel and Egypt has brought peace and stability to the region, and thus as an alleged cornerstone of stability should be revered and a democratic Egypt should maintain Camp David (a treaty many Egyptians view as humiliating in its negation of national sovereignty in the Sinai).

Has it been so, that is a source of stability? Since 1979, Israel has launched a brutal invasion in 1982 which killed over 20,000 mostly Lebanese and Palestinian civilians, in the late 1980s and early '90s it brutally put down a Palestinian largely peaceful uprising that killed over 1,000 Palestinian civilians in a death ration 10-1 with the Israelis, this was a precedent for the far more bloody Israeli war in the second Intifida. Israel has launched a war against Lebanon in 2006 which killed over a thousand Lebanese civilians and has only strengthened its colonial hold on land that Israel itself admits in theory will be the basis of a future Palestinian state with illegal settlers on stolen Palestinian land having gone a few thousand in 1979 to now over half a million. Similarly, Iraq, Tunisia, Syria and Sudan have been victims from Israeli attacks since Camp David. For whom has Camp David brought peace and stability? For the Palestinians and the Arabs?

No, only for Israeli occupations, wars, crimes, and terrorism by removing the threat of Egypt which only gave Israel a freer hand to further its brutal attacks against the Palestinians and the Lebanese, in particular. When they utter the word peace, they mean "peace" for Israeli wars and "stability" for Israel's occupation terrorist army.

Camp David was meant to neuter Egypt in order for Israel to tighten its grip on the real Zionist price: the West Bank. Egypt was always an irrelevance, no Jewish history or real attachment. But the West Bank is the idea of Greater Israel. Camp David was not meant to end Israeli wars and occupation, but solely an Israeli-Zionist tactical maneuver to continue them elsewhere with the advantage of silencing one enemy.

It has long been a sham, a farce. An embarrassment for Egypt. And should be seen as merely an abeyance before a free Egypt returns to being a vanguard of the Arab people, with all other Arabs, in opposing Zionist until all of Palestine is liberated.

The slave peace of Camp David must be forsaken like the diseased mole that Zionism always has been.
