No I am not saying it,I do not have the expertise to even comment on medical matters but Wolfgang Wodarg, head of health at the Council of Europe has accused the makers of flu drugs and vaccines of influencing the WHO World Health organisation decision to declare swine flu a pandemic.
The reason is obvious, these pharmaceuticals firms stood to gain billions of pounds from a world wide scare. The flip part is that many developing and poor countries squandered their meagre health budgets for providing vaccinations to millions for a relatively mild disease.
He has proposed to call for an investigation, the reolution which has been passed by the Council of Europe,representing 47 European nations the senate based in Strasbourg,France and which is responsible for the European Court of Human Rights.
This panic was created by the fear of outbreak of lethal bird flu predicted five years ago and led governments to stockpile anti flu drugs and put in sleeping contracts for millions of doses of vaccine.
This sleeping contract means that government have sealed contracts with the vaccine producers where they secure orders in advance and take almost all the responsibility,thereby standing to gain billions without any financial risk.When WHO utters the word pandemic they activate the contract.
Wolfgang have also said that in order to push their interests the drug companies have placed their people in WHO who might have influenced WHO to soften its defination of pandemic.
He also accused of pharmaceuticals firms of influencing scientists and officials to alarm governments world wide in order to promote their products.
What is more alarming is that in their blind race to garner profits they have exposed millions to risk of unknown side sffects of insufficiently tested vaccines.
One of the drug company Glaxo-smithKline a producer of tamiflu has Sir Roy Anderson a scientist who advises the British Government on swine flu also holds a Rs 85,13,240 a year post on the board of GSK.
Naturally GSK is rubbishing these allegations,saying pandemic was declared by WHO after many legal regulations and safegaurds check.They are also saying that Sir Roy after declaring his commercial interests had not attended any meetings related to the purchase of drugs and vaccines for British Government.
Obviously drug firms fanned swine flu scare and raked millions but at the cost of exposing millions of innocent persons to risk of unknown side effects of vaccine and drugs.
