Gaddafi In Israel's Image

POLITICS. .

Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi has resorted to the most vulgar pronouncements in a delusional attempt to maintain power. Both Tunisia's Ben Ali and especially Egypt's Mubarak played to patriotic base emotions in sordid manners designed to distract and arouse emotional sympathy on their behalf. It was insulting since love of country means the overthrow of tyrants not the designation of them as some sort of patriotic heroes. Patriotic my ass! Both were clients of the United States and Israel.

Now it is Gaddafi's turn and he's proclaimed that he has fought Israel. So Gaddafi is trying (unsuccessful) to play on the Arab hostility to Israel and love for the Palestinians as a cover for him. But while he claims he has ostensibly fought against Israel on behalf of Arabism, let's remember a few key facts:

1) After his honeymoon with the Bush administration, Gaddafi complied with American orders to suspend payments to Palestinians at Israel and its occupation's behest. So much for support for Palestine!

2) Gaddafi, it has recently been reported, quietly met with Israeli officials in Europe and sought to impress them with his philosophical [sic] ramblings in the hopes that they'd pass them along to American officials as was his intention (this is due to the widely held belief in the Arab world that Washington's heart runs through Tel Aviv).

3) Gaddafi recently likened himself to Israel...but in support of Israeli aggression against Palestinians. Gaddafi speaks in justifying his onslaught against the Libyan people: "even the Israelis in Gaza, when they moved into the Gaza strip, they moved in with tanks to fight such extremists." This statement is do disgusting on so many levels: 1) Even Israel? What does that mean to qualify with "even"? As if Israel has been a usually restrained nation with great regard for civilian life, but "even" dovish Israel was bloody in Gaza. Such bullshit. "Even Israel" nothing! Israel has been a massacring state since Day One that has treated Arab life as dispensable. 2) Secondly, it is not surprising that Gaddafi would take heart from Israeli tactics since he's also a brute criminal who treats human life as cheap. 3) Those "extremists" included over 400 Palestinian children and hundreds more civilians also killed by Israel. Just like Gaddafi's war with "extremists" is a war against a people. 4) And, lastly, since Gaddafi is so impressed with Israeli killing ability it is not surprising that an Israeli firm has been contracted by the Libyan regime to provide mercenaries to massacre Libyans (Israel likes to export its "skills"). And this guy claims he fought Israel!

But vile creators tend to see their mirror in other heinous beings: Gaddafi sees himself in Israel's war-mongering, deranged, criminal, massacring conduct. A pair those two who will both meet their warranted demise. Naturally so.
