French Newspaper Uses 9/11 Imagery As Advertisement
Leave 9/11 away from cynical electioneering and cheap promotion.
The imagery of 9/11 is as such that if used properly it can embed an attached message quite effectively, because the sight of 9/11 will awaken the viewer and strike their mind in a vivid manner if one wants to cynically attach another unrelated message (like "Vote Bush") to the image it may very well be bettered remembered by the viewer than a generic ad with the same message.

This is what the Bush campaign did back in 2004. Cynically using 9/11 for the reelection of a man who sat for 7minuted - 7minutes! - after that a second plane has hit the World Trade Center and the immortal words 'the nation is under attack'.
And, of course, Rudy Giuliani - the "hero" who did nothing - also ran - and only ran - 9/11 ads. Vote for me because I walked around the place!
And now a dumbass Republican, past failed Senatorial candidate and now to-be-failure Gubernatorial candidate Rick Lazio is also running cheap and explotative 9/11 campaign ads. But his our special: they exploit 9/11 for cynical political gain and play on anti-Muslim animus at the same time.
Politicians are not alone. After 9/11 every damn American corporation (with an off-shore tax evasion account) got patriotic. They did not show the WTC in the ads, but it was implied: The terrorists attacked, so buy a gas-guzzling Ford and funnel ... more money to 'nations that hate us'...um?
But the award for so unbelievably stupid, doesn't make sense, insensitive and just tasteless goes (almost naturally) to a French newspaper.
Created by Saatchi Saatchi France, the ad takes Courrier's "Learn to anticipate" tagline and imagines a world where if the architects of the World Trade Center had only been smart enough to anticipate the 9/11 attacks -- by making the Twin Towers much shorter -- the events of that day would have simply been a seriocomic scenario in which the hijacked passenger planes "missed" the buildings. (Huffington Post.)
And damn it! Why does the advertised issue - of all the covers they could have chosen - have to be a story on Palestine? As if ignorant Americans already do no paint with a broad brush in seeing all Muslims - perhaps those awful Enemies-of-Zion Palestinians in particular - as complicit in the attacks.
Damn you!!!
