French authorities were instructed Monday to start enforcement of a ban on the niqab (Islamic full-face veil). The law was passed by the French parliament last year in a proclamation by the French president which stated that French society and values are opposed to the marginalization of women as represented by the niqab which seeks to deny women their rights and make them almost invisible. The law was passed in the name of the secular values of the French Republic. And rightly so. The niqab is a vile, horrific and sexist garment promoted by fanatical men who seek to subdue women to servants. It has no basis in Islam. This is not the veil, but a garment which covers the women's face and hands. It is a modern fanatical innovation, ironically, by Salafi extremists. Only 2,000 women in France wear the niqab, but 2,000 more than what is decent. And although some niqab-wearing women protested the law, it is bullshit. These women say it is their right to wear it and that the law violated their freedom, but no woman in her right mind would willingly wear the niqab. She has been brainwashed by her idiot, backward husband who treats her like a camel. The niqab should be banned for it is an affront to equality and to say it is Medieval is to be mistaken since not even in Medieval times did Muslim women wear such a rag. It is the silly idea of contemporary Islamic fanatics.
But the French law is confusing. First it makes no mention of Islam or the niqab, but speaks vaguely of a ban on face covering but then, naturally, has to make exceptions for medical workers and the like.
It is also hard to enforce. Police are under orders not to remove the veil, but just to arrest the women and take them to a police station for identification. On the first day of the ban, one women was arrested and fined but several others who also made public displays of flouting the law were not. And there is the worry of clashed with militant Islamists.
But the law needs to be upheld and whether the 2,000 niqab wearing women know it or not, it is in their interest. And I am sure that most are happy inside since now they can tell their primitive husbands that they simply cannot wear the garb because it's the law.
