Former SAS leader tweets attacking Muslims and gays
Jim Wallace, A former Australian Special Air Services commander turned conservative Christian commentator has sparked controversy by posting a tweet attacking Homosexuals and Muslims. On ANZAC day, the national holiday which commemorates The Australian and New Zealand soldiers killed in war and honours returned servicemen and women, Wallace tweeted:

Just hope that as we remember servicemen and women today we remember the Australia they fought for - wasn't gay marriage and Islamic!
He was called out on his comments by even his own twitter followers. "Using ANZAC Day to push your anti-gay, anti-muslim agenda - you are truly a despicable individual," tweeted a user going by the handle of SeandBlogonaut. Others twitter users described him a "bigot", "homophobe in disgrace" and an "A-grade douchebag". Wallace told The Australian Online the original tweet had arisen from a discussion he had with his father, a World War II veteran. “He just recounted again how he found it difficult to recognise the Australia and the nature of the Australia he fought for,”
Wallace has apologized for the timing of his tweet but not for its content; “this was the wrong context to raise these issues. ANZACs mean to much to me to demean this day, not intended” he said. The story is all over the the Australian media and has gone international with publication by the Indian Express.
These comments coming from a former SAS leader will hardly help the 'hearts and minds' campaign of the Afghan war, even though it seems pale in comparison to recent revelations that the New Zealand SAS has been handing prisoners over to the Afghan National Directorate of Security, an organisation known for torturing detainees. The Afghan war is becoming increasingly unwinnable and unpopular.
