For God and the Empire
For God and the Empire
My Dad said that one day we would be bowing to Queen Camilla. And my blood boiled. As much as I don’t like doing it I have to admit that he was right, because the reality is that without an act of Parliament, or Charles developing a public display of conscience there will be a Queen Camilla.

You see despite my resentment of having to pay for a 1707 monarchy, I quite like it. No in fact I want to believe in the fairy tale, and everything that comes after the bit about ‘ever after. . . . ‘ I want my Head of Church of England, Defender of The Faith to be strong, passionate, articulate, magnanimous, loyal and have the courage to speak out about the world around us. I want a Defender of Faith.
If through open and fair competition an advert for the unique publicly accountable role of Head of the Church of England, Defender of the Faith was published, would your instincts employ this person . . ?
‘Mr Windsor ,you have been divorced and have since remarried. Can you tell us why that happened?’
‘Well, er, despite trying hard at my marriage, I only ever truly loved one women, Camilla my wife now.’
‘Did you ever think about remaining strong in your love for Camilla, and thus not marring your first wife Diana?’
‘Well, that’s not exactly what one does. And you see one needed to produce grand children for ones parents.’
‘The Role of Head of the Church of England, Defender of The Faith requires qualities that bring expectations from God and those the Defender represents. How do you think you will demonstrate this?’
‘By preaching one thing and privately doing the opposite.’
‘Thank you Mr Windsor. Don’t call us’.
Someone I know recently received a MBE and proudly brought their award into work. After naturally declaring myself formally MBE’d and holding a not so legitimate ceremony I realised that the words burnt into the medal are what the role of Head of Church of England is all about . . . . ‘For God and the Empire’.
I have no issue with Charles finally declaring his love for Camilla, but I do not believe he should take the throne, he has made his choice.
To make my point clearer still. Did the Pope preach abstinence, and the holy sanctuary of marriage and then father 13 children and take a mistress? No, he led his faith by example, how else could he Defend it?
I want my ‘ever after’ back. Not the lies of Diane, Charles and Camilla decades, which will continue as there are still three people in the marriage.
I want faith in a Defender of The Faith, and leadership in the Head of the Church of England. So instead of trying to ‘spin’ me the ‘spin’ of two soul mates being ruthlessly kept apart, lets face the facts. They were all responsible for their own actions, they all made their choice and non of them (Charles, Camilla or Diana) has demonstrated the qualities required. Lets move on, and get on with the job For God and The Empire, and may the force be with the right person for the job. . . . . happily ever after.
